Here comes summer at the R.A.C.!

Did you hear it? The hills are alive with the sound of joyous splashing children!

There are special moments that just happen without warning when a sound or smell take you back to another day and instantly create a smile where seconds before there was none.  Yesterday I opened the door to my second story balcony to water plants and was greeted by the distant happy noises of children splashing in the R.A.C (Rankin Aquatic Center).  I was transported back to the late 1970's and getting my two children to their morning summer swim lessons at the other end of Talbart Street.  It was a special young and happy time for all of us.  My smile is back just writing about it.  I would hope that everyone experiences those special unexpected recalls, but I suspect it happens more to those of us who have had the privilege of residing in the same wonderful place for a long time.

The joyous noise yesterday was the first "end of the school year" party at our new R.A.C.  When I met up with my neighbors later that afternoon for water aerobics, I discovered that several of them had also delighted in hearing the sounds earlier that day.  It was a group neighborhood smile for all of us!  Patty Lorick said that the first after school party was a success and there were no mishaps.  So "high fives" to the Community for voting in Measure H,  the City staff and all the individuals who helped make this happen as we celebrate the coming of summer 2012.
