The Contra Costa County Sheriff's Dept. Support Services Bureau consists of four divisions. The Alcohol, Drug and Toxicology division analyzes blood and urine samples from suspects, drug samples from suspected illegal drug laboratories and suspects, and tissue samples from autopsies. The Central Identification Services division, in conjunction with Alameda County, operates and maintains the automated fingerprint identification system, which stores nearly 700,000 fingerprint cards from both counties. The Criminalistics division examines crime scene information, such as hair, fibers, firearms, and fluids for police deparments throughout the county and for the City of Vallejo. The Property and Evidence Services division stores and catalogues all evidence and property gathered in the course of arrests and investigations by the Sheriff's Dept. and contracting cities.
