QUIET GAME STARTING NOW
Interview by Tony Shrum

If you like music, and live in Martinez, you don't have to look far to find a young five-piece pop punk band. QUIET GAME STARTING NOW reside right here in Martinez, born and raised (for the most part). I talk with the band about their city, all age venues, memorable shows, and more.

Do all members live in Martinez, and did you all grow up here?

We all live in Martinez, except Pierce, he lives in Pittsburg. Though Pierce has always lived in Pittsburg he went to school with all of us here in Martinez. The rest of us have been in Martinez our whole lives.

There isn't an all ages venue in Martinez. How do you guys feel about that, and what do you think should be done to fill that huge void?

We have had shows at the Veteran's Hall a few times and the crowd was great and we have always thought how lame it was how we can't have a permanent place to throw all ages shows like those. We think it would be beneficial for all if there were a venue in Martinez, since there aren't many venues in this area.

I see you guys play shows at “The Den” in Martinez, which is pretty much a house where they throw shows. You must really enjoy these shows as you keep doing them, or is it due to not having any other place to play in your hometown?

Bands are always asking us to throw them shows when they come through the area, like our friends Four Minute Mile, Forever Came Calling, My Iron Lung, and more. We can't keep playing Redhouse shows, so we decided to have our bassist, Adam, host house shows. We decided on the name "The Den" for Adam's house. They have been fun shows, but we would really love to have an actual venue to have these shows, so bands can get paid and we have more room for everything.

What's one of your most memorable performances?

Our most memorable show has to be our album release show at the Redhouse last March. That crowd was easily the craziest any crowd has been for us. Everyone was singing our lyrics and stage diving left and right. Our album was received very well and that added to an overall awesome show. Our shows with Set Your Goals, Comeback Kid, and Such Gold follow close behind.

You guys play pop punk. What it is about pop punk that made you fall in love with it?

In our early days as a band we were trying a lot of different things to solidify our sound. When we first started listening to pop punk we loved the high energy, fast pace, and the general message of the lyrics. As we have discovered more bands to listen to that play pop punk our love has just blossomed. We have progressively changed our sound over time, but have still remained in the pop punk genre.

Do you have any releases out? Doing any touring?

We are currently recording our EP, Options. We are having it mixed and mastered by Catharsis Studios in Oklahoma. We plan to release it online in early June and release a hard copy in mid July. As far as tours go, we only have ideas at this point for a summer tour. We have more planning to do to see what we can do this summer.

Where can we give your music a listen, and keep up to date on everything you guys are doing?

You can listen to our music on Facebook HERE and see everything that’s going on – shows, recording updates, etc. We will be streaming our EP on Facebook in early June, so everyone should look out for that.
