Wildflower Wonders Hike at the King-Swett Ranches

Solano Land Trust is hosting a public hike this weekend, which is a very special opportunity because these ranches are only accessible in the company of trained Solano Land Trust guides.  

Solano Land Trust volunteer Jim Walsh and staff scientist Sue Wickham will lead visitors to a sea of yellow cream cups, purple birds-eye gilia, and pink checkerbloom.

This will be a strenuous hike requiring the ability to trek off-trail, through high grasses and thistle, on uneven ground and up and down steep hills.  Note that these are working ranches, so cattle may be present.  Bring water, snacks, and insect repellent.  Wear pants and sturdy closed-toe shoes, preferably hiking boots.  Come prepared for variable weather by bringing layered clothes and protection from sun, wind, fog, and rain.  Meet promptly beside Jim's white "TruGreen" pickup truck at the Park-and-Ride lot where McGary Road, Hiddenbrooke Parkway, and American Canyon Road intersect, (on the Hiddenbrooke-side of the American Canyon/Hiddenbrooke Parkway exit, off Interstate 80).  Be ready to carpool or caravan from there to the trailhead.  No reservations necessary.    

The King-Swett Ranches are owned and operated by Solano Land Trust. This year Solano Land Trust celebrates its 25th Anniversary protecting working farms and natural areas in Solano County.  It has permanently protected over 20,000 acres of land for the current and future residents of Solano.  All scheduled events at Solano Land Trust properties are posted at www.SolanoLandTrust.org.
