College Park High Baseball Team Begins Its Playoff Run This Afternoon

baseball team begins its championship quest this afternoon when it hosts a first round playoff game.

The Falcons squad, ranked fifth in the NCS Division II tournament, will take on 13th seeded Maria Carrillo High at 4 p.m. at their field on the Pleasant Hill campus.

Maria Carrillo completed the season winning seven of their last eight regular season games. The Pumas come into the playoffs with an 18-8 record.

College Park won five of its final six games and sports an 18-6 overall mark.

The Falcons are led by a trio of players.

Senior catcher Luke Van Holten is batting .319 with six doubles and one homerun.

Junior first baseman Anthony Baleto is hitting .328 with 14 runs batted in. As a pitcher, he also has a 4-1 record with a 0.32 earned run average.

Freshman third baseman Joe DeMers sports a .333 batting average with 18 runs batted in, seven doubles and one homerun. As a pitcher, he has an 8-1 record with a 0.95 earned run average.

College Park has a 8-2 home record this season. Maria Carrillo is 7-3 so far on the road.

College Park's softball team has a tough assignment this afternoon. They are playing on the road at top seeded Newark Memorial High. The 16th seeded Lady Falcons are 13-10 on the season. Newark Memorial is 19-4.
