Alhambra Goalie Gets Her Kicks With Mexican Soccer Team

High school soccer star Jessica Ramirez is gaining international attention.

Jessica Viera Ramirez is busier than normal, even for someone who spends most of her time scrambling to swat away shots.

The Alhambra High School goalkeeper recently spent time with Mexico's under-17 girls national soccer team, the Contra Costa Times reported. The squad is preparing for the U17 World Cup qualifying tournament to be held in Jamaica, Oct. 30-Nov. 9.

Ramirez's club team, Oakland-based Bay Oaks Botafogo '96, was in Kansas City on Sunday, the final day of the National Championships. Bay Oaks finished third in the West Coast Regionals and earned a wild-card spot in the Nationals.
