Two Martinez students who entered into the PTA Reflections program will have their work displayed at the state PTA convention in May.

Zoe Damon, a seventh-grader at Martinez Junior High, and John Swett Elementary fifth-grader Ethan Karlin, submitted works in the photography category. Their efforts won competitions at their schools, the Martinez School District Council, the county-wide district and now on to the state.

The artwork of all of the Martinez Council participants will be on display at the mARTinez Gallery from Saturday, Jan. 26 to Thursday, Jan. 31. Come check it out!

The National PTA Reflections program encourages students to explore the arts and express themselves. Participating students in Pre-K through grade 12 create theme-based artwork in dance choreography, film production, literature, musical composition, photography or visual arts. The theme for this year was “The Magic of a Moment."

Since it was founded in 1969, this program has benefited millions of students.  In 2012, 26 students had their art chosen to move on to the Martinez Council of PTAs. Many more students entered at their individual schools.
