The Martinez Unified School District board will appoint a new member to fill the vacancy left by the resignation of longtime member Vicki Gordon.

To qualify, a candidate must a registered voter living within the district at the time of the appointment.

Those wishing to apply must do so by Jan. 3. An informational meeting for candidates will be held on Jan. 9.

Best of luck to Vicki in her new position. Will the candidates to fill the vacancy be posted so the public has the opportunity to know the field? Would it not make sense for the next-highest vote recipient of the recent election be the obvious voter selection to fill the vacancy?
