Martinez Resident, Coach Arrested for Inappropriate Relationship with Student

The 22-year-old coach at Acalanes High School in Lafayette resigned after the school put him on administrative leave.

Lafayette police arrested a 22-year-old volleyball coach at Acalanes high school Friday for having an inappropriate relationship with a minor.

Daniel Kalustian of Martinez reportedly had a relationship with a female student for more than a year, according to the Contra Costa Times.

The Lafayette school chief sent the following letter to parents and guardians Friday afternoon:

I am writing to inform our Parent Community that the District learned that an Acalanes High School coach was arrested today with charges related to an inappropriate relationship and misconduct with a minor student from another school in the District.

The District was alerted to the possible misconduct of the 22 year-old coach, and he was immediately placed on administrative leave; thereafter, he resigned his position with the District. This individual served as a coach in the District and in no other capacity.

The District has extended support to the student and the family to assist them through this process.

We will continue to work with the Lafayette Police Department on this matter, and student safety will continue to be a top priority.

Should questions or concerns arise for your student, please contact a school counselor or administrator.

Sincerely, John Nickerson Superintendent

I have found it's very hard to find a parking spot there. Another negative is the number of theRead More "constant outsdoorsmen" types lurking all around. I've been confronted several times and worried about leaving my car there.

I am happy to know that Mr. Behan's review of "STID" is now available. Might we knowRead More where it is available? Perhaps I am just an Apple lovin' technopeasant, but despite my frantic serial clicking on text without links, I could not find the actual story. Alas and alack I may never know why there is no darkness in "...Into Darkness" (or Lightness). Oh, and welcome back Jim!

Do City Council members still get free parking passes as perk?

The main reason I don't go to any of the businesses downtown is the lack of parking. What littleRead More there is is taken up by the owners of these establishments. God forbid they park somewhere else less convenient so actual paying customers can frequent their businesses.
