Martinez Classmates Make A Get-Well Video For Aaron Hearn

The staff and students at Martinez Jr. High put a video get-well card out to their injured friend, who is said to be recovering nicely.

In days gone by, when a student in a school suffered a major trauma, the students would each contribute to a giant poster, which would then be hand-delivered by a handful of students.

These days, things are more sophisticated. Case in point: when their sixth-grade classmate Aaron Hern, 11, suffered injuries in the Boston Marathon bombing on April 15, the students and staff at Martinez Jr. High produced a video get-well card that was then posted for him on YouTube.

One of Aaron's teachers, Lexy Tamony, coordinated the shoot on Friday. Students were relieved of class an hour early so that they could write their get-well wishes on paper, and video taken in each of his classes.

Then, all the students gathered on the Quad to hold up a banner and wish him well with a rousing cheer.

In addition to the get-well wishes from his classmates, Aaron received a visit from First Lady Michelle Obama on Friday, and yesterday got a visit from Oakland A's players Josh Reddick and Brandon Moss, and first base coach Tye Waller, who were in town to play the Boston Red Sox today.

Aaron is said to be doing better, and is expected to return home with his family soon.
