Back Off Pesticides, Parents Plead With School District

The school board is due to decide Monday night on a pesticide plan.

The Martinez Unified School District board will hear from a group of parents Monday night who feel that the district should ease up on pesticide use.

According to the agenda for Monday's school board meeting, the board is going to discuss the formation of an advisory committee composed of representatives from each school, a board member and a member of the adminstrative staff, a to formulate an annual integrated pest management program and budget.

According to the Contra Costa Times, a group of parents wants to see the the district use the least amount of toxic chemicals possible to control pests at the school sites. Their concerns stem from the fact that young people are more vunerable to the effects of toxins due to their size and their level of outdoor activities.
