Marina Vista Closed Through Friday

Crews are fixing the crosswalks that were originally installed incorrectly.

Marina Vista will be closed through Friday, according to Public Works Director Dave Scola, while crews from Bay City Construction re-do the crosswalks that were installed incorrectly.

The crosswalks across Marina Vista are brick walkways, and Scola said Bay City crews originally installed them incorrectly, so when cars drove over them, they settled too far, creating a hazard. The crosswalks were part of the underground utility project and Marina Vista beautification project funded in part by PG&E.

The Bay City crews will be replacing the brick crosswalks through Friday, Scola said, and drivers will be diverted to other routes meanwhile.

They originally installed on sand over compacted gravel, which is fine for driveways and small vehicle loads, but not heavy trucks. The re-do is bricks on concrete mortar. Mucho mejor.

Gee, I sure hope this is all on the contractor's dime for replacement. I'd hate to have the city (me) paying (again) for the same project.
