Man Arrested in Martinez for Stealing $1,000 Worth of Copper Wire

Police say the copper wire belonged to the City of Benicia.

From Bay City News:

A Newark man was arrested Monday night on suspicion of stealing a city-owned spool of copper wire from a work site in Benicia, police said.

Daniel Reeves, 37, was arrested around 8:30 p.m. after a police officer on patrol at the Benicia Industrial Park noticed a large spool of copper cable in the bed of a GMC pickup truck, police said.

Police were aware that metal thefts had been occurring in the area, and the officer followed the pickup truck as it took the Bayshore Road on-ramp onto southbound Interstate Highway 680, according to police.

The truck continued south on I-680 onto the Benicia-Martinez Bridge, and police eventually pulled over the pickup in the city of Martinez.

Upon questioning, Reeves, who was driving the truck, admitted to stealing the spool of copper, which was clearly marked as property of the city of Benicia, police said.

Officers also found a pair of bolt cutters and wire cutters in the truck. The spool of wire is valued at about $1,000. Police arrested Reeves for possession of stolen property and grand theft, police said. He was booked into Solano County Jail.

I have found it's very hard to find a parking spot there. Another negative is the number of theRead More "constant outsdoorsmen" types lurking all around. I've been confronted several times and worried about leaving my car there.

I am happy to know that Mr. Behan's review of "STID" is now available. Might we knowRead More where it is available? Perhaps I am just an Apple lovin' technopeasant, but despite my frantic serial clicking on text without links, I could not find the actual story. Alas and alack I may never know why there is no darkness in "...Into Darkness" (or Lightness). Oh, and welcome back Jim!

The main reason I don't go to any of the businesses downtown is the lack of parking. What littleRead More there is is taken up by the owners of these establishments. God forbid they park somewhere else less convenient so actual paying customers can frequent their businesses.

Jim, then that's yet another penalty for showing up for jury duty. The system needs a big overhaul.Read More

The city is no longer paying for juror parking. In other words, juror or not, if your meter hasRead More expired, you pay.
