Is Parking A Headache In Martinez?

Parking garage? More bike racks? Do you have a suggestion for the City Council to improve downtown parking?

Trying to find a parking space, especially in downtown Martinez, can sometimes be enough to drive a person crazy. Heading to your favorite Main Street hangout for lunch? You might end up parking three blocks away -- on another street.

The Martinez City Council and City Manager Philip Vince are looking at ways to improve the parking situation -- perhaps by adding more spaces -- as more businesses come to town.

Martinez has four new restaurants and is expecting more businesses to set up shop in the city within the next year. That's creating some urgency to add to the 1,100 parking spaces in town, according to Vince who addressed the topic at the July 24 City Council meeting.

The City Council voted to delay a proposal to hire Walker Parking Associates to draw up a downtown parking management plan. The topic was put off until September.
