Does the Laurel Knolls Project Fit in Martinez?

Martinez City Council to consider new housing project at tonight's meeting

Neighbors weren't happy when they saw the original plans for the Laurel Knoll high-density housing development. It's up to the Martinez City Council now to decide whether or not the project goes forward.

The City Council meets Wednesday night with a full agenda, which includes further discussion of the proposed housing development on 370 Muir Station Road.

The population of Martinez is expected to increase in coming years. The final Regional Housing Needs numbers for 2014-22 released by the Association of Bay Area Governments ask Martinez to create 196 low to very low income homes and 469 total.

Is there room in Martinez, however? Neighbors raised concerns at public meetings over a lack of setbacks in the Laurel Knolls project. Residents were also worried about increased traffic in the neighborhood.

The developer, Seeno Homes, has presented the City Council with new plans that include some changes based on those concerns.

Residents could find out tonight, however, if those changes go far enough for the City Council.
