Walnut Creek Bomb Squad Called to Martinez

M100s found by new homeowner, disposed of safely.

The Walnut Creek Bomb Squad was called in Feb. 3 to handle some minor explosives found by a new homeowner, according to the Martinez Police Department.

According to Commander Eric Ghisletta, a new homeowner on the 13oo block of Grandview Dr. discovered a cache of M100 firecrackers on the property. An M100 is the equivalent of a quarter stick of dynamite.

The explosives were old and "sweating," Ghisletta said, so the Walnut Creek bomb squad was called in to handle the situation. The explosives were collected and taken to "a deserted and safe area near the Martinez Marina," Ghisletta said, and were safety disposed of. There were no injuries or damage to property, he added.
