Sunday Train Victim Was A Suicide, Police Say

35-year-old John Downing of Woodland was identified as the man who died after being hit by an Amtrak train Sunday.

The man who was struck and killed by an Amtrak train Sunday has been identified as 35-year-old John Downing of Woodland, Calif.

According to Sgt. Jon Sylvia of the Martinez Police Department, Downing jumped in front of the oncoming Capital Corridor train yesterday about 1:15 p.m.

Officers on the scene determined it was a suicide after speaking with witnesses and the family, Sylvia said. His car was found nearby, and he was at the station by himself, Sylvia added.
