Emergency responders have pulled a man's body from a car that went into the Contra Costa Canal in Pittsburg this morning, a Contra Costa County Fire Protection District inspector said.

The fire district received a report around 9 a.m. of a car that went into the water near West Leland and Golf Club roads, fire officials said.

Rescuers worked to disentangle the man from the submerged vehicle and attempted to revive him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene, fire Inspector Lisa Martinez said.
