Rash of Burglaries Reported in Martinez

Homes, garages, vehicles and a business were all victimized.

Police investigated five burglaries or attempted burglaries in Martinez Tuesday. No arrests have been made. Here's what was taken and the locations:

  • Electronics, a payroll check and cash were taken from a home on Northridge Road. The resident discovered the burglary when he returned home.
  • The garage of a home on Village Place was burglaried. The resident left the garage door open for about 20 minutes. The thief took everything from a high-end mountain bike and wine fridge to 50 pounds of dog food.
  • Someone tried to get into a residence at Senior Center Apts. on Ferry Street. The resident found that a window screen had been taken off and the window frame bent. The person did not get inside. The resident thinks it happened between midnight and 5 a.m.
  • A warehouse on Arnold Drive was burglarized. Someone cut the wires on a burglar alarm, but it’s unknown at this time was taken. The person who reported the crime heard noises in the warehouse around 7 p.m.
  • A vehicle was burglarized on Muir Road. The owner isn’t sure if it was locked. A laptop computer, the car’s title and registration, and other items were stolen.

Checks were stolen from the mailbox of an elderly woman on West Green Street. Someone cashed the checks at a payday loan company.

An aggressive pitbull was reported on the loose in the area of Pacheco and Gianinni during the predawn hours.

Two vehicles at the hospital got tickets for parking in handicapped spaces without having permits.

And finally—police were asked to meet the Amtrak train as it pulled into the station. A man apparently failed to pay his fare and responded to the situation by locking himself in the bathroom and refusing to come out.
