Video: Police Carry Olympic Torch Through Martinez

Martinez police alighted from the Virginia Hills Shopping Center with the Special Olympics torch Tuesday morning, carrying it to the Marina.

Martinez police took the Special Olympics torch from Pleasant Hill officers Tuesday morning, and ran it from the parking lot of the Virginia Hills Shopping Center north on Alhambra Avenue. The group turned right on Escobar St., left on Ferry St., and down to the marina, where members of the Contra Costa Sheriff’s Marina Patrol took the torch across the river to Benicia, where it then traveled to Davis —the site of this year’s Special Olympics.

The Martinez police officers running with the flame were Chief Gary Peterson, Capt. Eric Ghisletta, Lt. Aaron Roth, Dec. Patrick Salamid, Sgt. Steve Gaul, Ofc. Dustin Mayberry, and Ofc. Ian Leong.
