FBI Training For Martinez Police Commander

Commander Eric Ghisletta will attend the FBI Academy in Virginia.

Commander Eric Ghisletta has been selected to attend the prestigious FBI National Academy starting Saturday in Quantico, Virginia.

The academy’s mission is "to support, promote and enhance the personal and professional development of law enforcement leaders by preparing them for complex, dynamic and contemporary challenges through innovative techniques, facilitating excellence in education and research, and forging partnerships throughout the world."

At the academy, Ghisletta will go through a professional course of study for U.S. and international law-enforcement leaders. The goal of the academy is to “raise law-enforcement standards, knowledge and cooperation worldwide,” according to an academy statement.

“I am very thankful for the opportunity,” Ghisletta said. “The city has been wonderful in working with my scheduled time away. I am looking forward to my class schedule and bringing back some new information and ideas to the department.”

The late Chief Robert “Bud” Markwith was the last Martinez PD administrator to attend the FBI National Academy, in the early 1980s.  The course of study is tuition free and accommodations and meals are provided.

“I think the networking will also be a big part of the program, so meeting law-enforcement officers from around the world should be one of the highlights,” Ghisletta added.

He is a 21-year veteran of the department. He had been a patrol officer, K-9 handler, detective, patrol sergeant, hostage negotiator and commander. When he returns from the academy, Ghisletta will be promoted to captain under the new departmental structure.
