Martinez Police Checkpoint April 28

Drivers on Alhambra Avenue from 7 p.m. to midnight will be stopped and checked for drunk driving.

A police checkpoint will be in place on the 3700 block of Alhambra Ave. Thursday, April 28 from 7 p.m. to midnight as the Martinez Police Department sends a message that it is not ok to drink alcohol and drive.

If traffic permits, all drivers will be stopped and screened for alcohol, according to a department press release.

"All too often, members of our community are senselessly injured or killed on local roadways by impaired drivers," said Sgt. Aaron Roth. "This DUI/Drivers License checkpoint is an effort to reduce those tragedies, as well as insuring drivers have a valid driver’s license.  A major component of these checkpoints is to increase awareness of the dangers of impaired driving and to encourage sober designated drivers."

Drivers found to be under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol will be arrested, Roth said.

"Our objective is to send a clear message to those who are considering driving a motor vehicle after consuming alcohol and/or drugs," he added.
