Martinez Police Arrest, Cite Drivers at DUI Checkpoint

The Martinez Police Department has released the results of its DUI checkpoint conducted in the city Friday night in an effort to combat drunk driving.

The checkpoint, which took place in the 1000 block of Escobar Street, resulted in the arrest of one driver on suspicion of driving under the influence, Martinez police said.

In addition, two drivers were cited for having a suspended license, three drivers were cited for being unlicensed, and one vehicle was towed, according to police.

Checkpoints are placed in locations that have the greatest opportunity for achieving drunk and drugged driving deterrence and provide the greatest safety for officers and the public, Martinez police said.
