Martinez Police Are Keeping the Special Olympics Flame Alive

Officers will run the flame from Virginia Hills to the Marina beginning at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Members of the Martinez Police Department will be keeping the Special Olympics flame alive Tuesday morning (June 19) as they receive the flame from the Pleasant Hill police and run it to the marina.

Martinez police will meet Pleasant Hill officers at about 11:30 a.m. in the parking lot of the Virginia Hills Safeway store at 6688 Alhambra Ave. Officers will then run north on Alhambra, go right on Escobar St., left on Ferry St., and down to the marina. At the point, members of the Contra Costa Sheriff’s Marina Patrol will take the torch across the river to Benicia, where it will make its way to Davis, site of this year’s Special Olympics.

The Martinez police officers running with the flame will be Chief Gary Peterson, Capt. Eric Ghisletta, Lt. Aaron Roth, Sgt. Steve Gaul, Ofc. Dustin Mayberry, and Ofc. Ian Leong.
