Martinez PD: Garbage Can Animosity

Selections from the Martinez police reports from April 2 to 5.

April 2

Drive-by. At 7:23 a.m., there were reports that a driver on Highway 4 pulled out a gun and was shooting. The California Highway Patrol was notified and sent to deal with the rogue gunman. 

Caught on camera. Around 11 a.m., a woman reported that someone had stolen her purse either from her residence or car on Bush Street. She said that Marina Market had captured someone on video using her credit card.

Go-carting. At 4:32 p.m., someone was having far too much fun "zipping around at high rates of speed" in a go-cart at the marina.

Offensive fence. Just after 6 p.m., a resident of Coldsprings Ct. reported having an argument with the neighbor who threatened to tear down her fence.

Not 21 yet. At 7:37 p.m., teens at Susan Street Park were indulging in a little underage drinking with Captain Morgan.

Cat woman. At 9:39 p.m., someone was jumped on Arreba St but deterred the 24-year-old female assailant with a knife. The suspect ran away down Berrellesa carrying the victim's torn shirt.

Immobilization. Just before 11 p.m., an electric scooter was stolen from inside Lucky's on Arnold Drive.

April 3

Sore loser. Around 9 a.m., someone tried to steal the bocce ball canopy from the courts on North Court Street.

Missing tree plant. At some point this morning, a resident of Dardanelle Drive realized that an orange tree in a decorative pot had been stolen from the porch.

Five o'clock somewhere. Around 2:30 p.m., a man was arrested at the Lucky's on Arnold Drive on suspicion of stealing a large bottle of alcohol.

It looked like a restroom. At 3:34 p.m., a drunk man at the Amtrak station urinated in the janitor's closet.

General teen rowdiness. Just before 5 p.m., teens were seen drinking and throwing cans off the bridge at Hidden Valley Park.

Vacation burglary? Around 10 p.m., a man checking on his vacationing brother's house on Serrano Street found that it had been ransacked.

April 4

Wrong number. At 8 a.m., the attendant at the Shell gas station on Alhambra Avenue reported receiving "crank calls," some of which were of a sexually explicit nature.

Bad reviews. Just before 3 p.m., a discontented customer of Wells Fargo on Main Street was reportedly shouting at employees and "flagging down" other customers, presumably to offer her opinion.

I'm not going in there. At 4:39 p.m., a resident on Arlington Way came home to find a ladder propped up against the back of the house and the bedroom window open. The resident had not yet ventured into the house. Police found everything to be in order.

Technology envy. Just before 8 p.m., a resident at the Riverhouse apartment complex on Alhambra Av. reported that three people were outside threatening to "club him in the head" and take his computer.

Inappropriate attire. Around 11 p.m., a resident on Spring Lake Drive reported that someone was trying to get into her garage. When it was suggested that a patrol be dispatched to the residence, she became "upset that she would have to put a robe on."

April 5

Garbage can mystery. Just after midnight, a resident on Holiday Hills Drive reported hearing a "dragging" noise and then discovered her garbage can missing. 

Garbage can mystery solved? Around 3:30 a.m., a resident of the Baylands Drive/Village Oaks Drive area reported seeing several cars "purposefully running over garbage cans." The suspects were gone on police arrival.

Teens and a dog. Three youths ot Mountain View Park were reportedly throwing rocks at the backboard of the baseball diamond. The caller reported that "they also had a pit bull with them."

Not your bed. Around 3:30 p.m., a report came in that a woman had been asleep on a bench outside Creek Monkey for about three hours.

Five-finger discount. Just after 4 p.m., a woman reportedly stole a dress from Joyful Bliss and wore it down Main Street. She was arrested.

Locked out? At 7:30 p.m. a man was seen with a screwdriver and coat hanger lodged in a car window. The caller suspected it was an attempted vehicle theft. Police decided the claim was unfounded.

Unsolicited photo taking. At 8:31 p.m., a resident on Ash Street complained that her neighbors were harrassing her and "taking pictures of her when she came home."
