Man Hit By Train

He was transported to John Muir Medical Center, police say.

A man was hit by a train about 3:15 p.m. Thursday near the Amtrak crossing, Martinez police say. It was unclear if the man was on the tracks intentionally.

The unidentified man was taken to John Muir Medical Center, police said. His condition is unknown.

According to witnesses, the man was walking near the tracks when the train approached and sounded its whistle continuously. The man did not move, the train applied its brakes, but hit the man, who suffered serious injuries.

Police say alcohol "may have played a role" in the incident.

Cars trapped on the park side of the tracks were being re-routed over the concrete overpass to the Berrellesa Street exit.
