A body that was found in some bushes near an Interstate Highway 80 off-ramp in San Pablo this morning appears to be that of a homeless man, according to police and the California Highway Patrol.

A passerby spotted the man's body in the bushes near the San Pablo Dam Road off-ramp shortly before 8 a.m., CHP spokesman Sean Wilkenfeld said.

Emergency medical responders arrived a short time later and pronounced the man dead at the scene, he said. The Contra Costa County coroner's office was called to the scene to retrieve the body.

Wilkenfeld said no foul play is suspected in the death.

The man appears to have been a transient who may have suffered a medical problem, San Pablo police Cmdr. Jeff Palmieri said.

After the body was discovered, the CHP shut down the San Pablo Dam Road off-ramp and issued a Sig-alert. The off-ramp reopened around 9:30 a.m.
