Man Charged With Attempted Robbery After Brief Chase

Police say suspect was preparing to rob Home Depot on Arnold Drive.

A Concord man was arrested Tuesday night on suspicion of armed robbery and other charges, after a brief car chase.

Martinez police say that 46-year-old Paul Frakes, Jr., of Concord was seen about 8 p.m. loading a sawed-off shotgun in the parking lot of Home Depot on Arnold Drive. When police arrived and ordered him out of the car, Frakes drove off. After a brief chase, his truck became disabled when he tried to drive through some vegetation.

In addition to the shotgun, police found a ski mask and gloves in the truck. Frakes was arrested and charged with attempted robbery, possession of a deadly weapon, felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, possession and being under the influence of a controlled substance and evading a police officer.  He was booked into the Martinez Detention Facility.
