Police say a 41-year-old Antioch man, high on drugs, tried to rape a woman near Hidden Lakes Park Tuesday night, but the woman was able to use pepper spray to fend off her attacker, and the man was later arrested.
According to Martinez Police Captain Eric Ghisletta, police received a call at 9:07 p.m. about a possible robbery near Hidden Lakes Park. The victim said that an unknown man attacked her as she was riding her bike, but she was able to defend herself and used pepper spray to get away.
Police then combed out and searched the area, and arrested Joseph Buccellato of Antioch. Ghisletta said he was arrested for assault with intent to commit rape, and being under the influence of a controlled substance.
The incident remains under investigation.
