"Garage Crackers" Strike In Lafayette's Happy Valley

Thieves cruise a Lafayette neighborhood, spot something they like — and break into the garage.

Patcher "Andrea" from Lafayette wrote us this morning about an odd gambit her family experienced over the weekend in their Happy Valley neighborhood.

It seems that at about 10:45 p.m. Sunday thieves pried open their large garage door, took it off its track and made off with two "brand new" mountain bikes and a mini motorcycle, Andrea said.

"We think our two teenage daughters stopped them from going further," she added.  "They drove in and noticed a suspicious older model white minivan with its brake lights on, pulled over next to our gate near the garage..."

Seems the "wheelman" was waiting for whoever "cracked" the garage door, his or her foot on the brake and ready for a quick getaway.

"Unfortunately, our girls didn't tell us something looked off until we found out we were robbed," Andrea said.

Area of Occurrence: Happy Valley Road and Redwood Lane

Time: 10:45 to 11 p.m. Sunday

Possible Suspect Vehicle: Older model white minivan
