FBI: Violent Crime in 2012 Increased in Martinez

Both violent and property crime reports were higher in 2012 than in 2011, according to the FBI.

Violent crimes in Martinez increased from 2011 to 2012 according to new data released by the Federal Bureau of Investigations, but not by much.

Martinez police reported 70 violent crimes in 2012, compared to 68 reported in 2011.

Additionally, the number of property crimes also increased from 838 in 2011 to 930 last year. In 2012, Martinez had a violent crime rate of 1.9 known offenses per 1,000 residents and a property crime rate of 25.3 known offenses per 1,000 people.

The FBI reported a nationwide increase of violent crimes and a decrease of property crimes after compiling crime data from 18,000 jurisdictions in 50 states.
