DUI Checkpoints County-Wide Starting Today

There will be a Martinez checkpoint on Sept. 1.

Starting today through Sept. 5, law enforcement in Martinez and throughout Contra Costa County will be supporting an intensive crackdown on impaired driving. The program will include checkpoints, local roving DUI (driving under the influence) patrols, and mutli-agency DUI checkpoints, all through the Labor Day weekend.

In Martinez, the DUI checkpoint is scheduled for Sept. 1.

In 2009, 10,839 people died in crashes in which a driver or motorcycle rider was at or above the legal limit, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration

Penalties for those convicted of driving under the influence are steep, and include high fines, jail time, loss of the driver’s license, and higher insurance rates.
