Contra Costa County Coroner IDs Man Killed in Apartment Fire

—By Bay City News

A man who was killed in a fire at his Richmond apartment last week has been identified by the Contra Costa County coroner's office as 52-year-old Christopher McCann.

The fire was reported at an apartment in the 400 block of South 23rd Street at about 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 12.

Firefighters contained the blaze to an area around the home's front door and quickly extinguished it.

Dental records were used to help identify McCann, who fire officials said was found just inside the front door of the second-story apartment.

Richmond fire Marshal Terry Harris said an investigation into the cause of the blaze is ongoing, and fire investigators are awaiting a toxicology report from the coroner's office.

Investigators were interviewing neighbors and other potential witnesses last week. No neighbors were displaced.
