CHP Launches 'Season Of Safety'

Patrol units increased this month as officers keep a sharp eye out for impaired drivers.

By Bay City News Service

Monday began the "Season of Safety," a holiday traffic safety campaign according to the California Highway Patrol in the Contra Costa area.

December brings holiday parties, increased time on the road and a dangerous side effect: drunken driving. To combat this problem, the CHP in Contra Costa County plans to increase patrol units.

Extra enforcement, a DUI checkpoint and a crosswalk enforcement operation are scheduled through Dec. 31, when the campaign ends.

"We want to be proactive in our enforcement efforts so that families can safely arrive at and enjoy holiday celebrations," acting Commander Lt. Christopher Sherry said in a statement Friday.
