Burglar Allegedly Goes After Charity For Second Time

Martinez man suspected of stealing holiday decorations from charity group Christmas for Everyone in a case similar to one earlier this year.

A Martinez man who robbed a storage unit earlier this year was arrested Thursday after allegedly returning to the scene of the crime to rob the same storage unit.

The non-profit group Christmas for Everyone reported Wednesday that $20,000 in holiday decorations had been stolen from its storage unit on Shell Avenue in Martinez.

Detectives investigating the case went to the home of Jason Crites, 39, who was on probation. There detectives found several boxes containing property that was positively identified as the stolen material. The decorations were returned to Christmas for Everyone. Crites was then arrested.

Crites was one of two men arrested for burglarizing a storage unit belonging to the same charity earlier this year when $60,000 in presents, equipment and other items were stolen. Crites posted bail and was released from custody.

Crites is currently being held at the Martinez Detention Facility for possession of stolen property. Additional charges are pending.
