Brentwood Man is Identified as Freeway Suicide

Airnoi Saykosy, 32, of Brentwood, leaped to his death Tuesday morning from the Treat Boulevard overpass to I-680.

The man who jumped from the Treat Boulevard overpass along Interstate 680 in Walnut Creek Tuesday has been identified as a Brentwood man.

The victim of the apparent suicide was Airnoi Saykosy, 32, of Brentwood. It is believed he climbed over the nine-foot-high, chain-link fence and jumped to the freeway some 20 feet below, Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office spokesman Jimmy Lee said.

At about 9:15 a.m. Tuesday, authorities received a call from someone reporting a person on the Treat Boulevard overpass poised to jump. The man did indeed jump onto the roadway. Three southbound lanes of I-680 were closed between highway 242 and Treat Boulevard. The lanes re-opened in the late morning.

Dev and Sad, I was the woman who followed your uncle as he climbed along the bridge, and I stayed near him until the end. I am so sorry that there was nothing I could say to deter him, his mind seemed to be made up. He looked at me often, but never said a word back to me. Sincere sympathy for your loss!

What a terrible thing to say. Have a heart. This person obviously was in tremendous mental pain or he wouldn't have done such a horrific thing. Try to put your self in his place & maybe you would understand.

Sorry. I'm shutting down the comment stream on this story because there's one commenter determined to provoke others to outrage and that's getting old. Thank you for the responsible comments on here. -- Lance Howland, editor, Walnut Creek Patch
