Black Smoke Reported Above Tesoro Golden Eagle Facility

The smoke, which originated in Martinez, could be seen for miles.

Black smoke was reported above the Tesoro Golden Eagle facility in Martinez late Friday morning, air district officials said.

The smoke was seen at about 11:30 a.m. and lasted for 20 minutes, according to the Bay Area Air Quality Management District.

The smoke could be seen from miles away, and Tesoro issued a Level II warning as a result.

Bay Area Air District inspectors were at the scene Friday afternoon and were investigating the cause of the flaring incident.
