Update: Man Safely Removed from BART Tracks

UPDATE 6:43 P.M.: A man believed to have psychiatric problems was safely removed from walking along BART tracks between the Bayfair and San Leandro stations Monday evening, a BART police lieutenant said.

The man walking on the tracks was reported at 5:35 p.m. after he apparently walked off the end of the Bayfair platform, Lt. Steve Coontz said.

Trains were turned around at Bayfair and San Leandro causing major delays in service. Police found the man unharmed along the tracks and took him to the hospital for psychiatric evaluation, Coontz said.

Normal train service was resuming with residual delays.

UPDATE 6:17 P.M.: BART was experiencing major delays in service between its Bayfair and San Leandro stations Monday evening because of a person on the tracks, BART officials said.

Trains in both directions were turning around before reaching the Bayfair or San Leandro station as of 6 p.m., according to BART.
