Attempted Robbery Suspect Nabbed

Police arrest a man who they say tried to hold up the Valero gas station on Tuesday morning.

A man tried to rob the Valero gas station on Alhambra Avenue on Tuesday morning, police say, but fled with no money or merchandise, and was later caught.

According to Martinez police, 30-year-old Gregory Sloan Franklin of Novato approached the clerk at Valero gas station at 4141 Alhambra Ave., and, saying he had a gun, demanded money. No gun was seen, police say.

The clerk, afraid for his life, reportedly was unable to open the register. At that point, police say, Franklin fled in a taxi. Police were called and the taxi was stopped. Franklin was arrested and is being held at the county jail in Martinez.
