Lightining Strikes Martinez Neighborhood

Yes, it is true, you can believe your ears when you heard that crash of thunder last night.  In the area known as Mt. View, in unincorporated Martinez, a very tall redwood tree took a substantial hit right down the center.  On Leslie Ave near Vine Ave.

We heard it LOUOD here off Shell Ave. Loud!Wonder if there was more than one or just one huge one. I think sometimes they have multiple hit sites. Going to go out and check our trees as well, because sounded right in our back yard as well.. thanks for the picture. I will never forget one hit a basketball pole at Pine Hallow in around 1977 and bent and twisted it, melted it. It was incredible.. Our tree also got hit about 10 years ago and took the top off and split I strait down. They can do some damage.. wowo

Did it happen at the same time? Cheryll do you know what time the strike hit? I have never heard anything like it before. Heard a lot of thunder in all conditions, even in snow. In a plane. A huge bolt hit our house in New Orleans incredibly loud and powerful. but this one was different. Maybe so Doreen. I honestly thought the refinery blew up. It did not sound like typical thunder , or a transformer. Maybe a combination. And electricity going around wires etc. But it was very very strange sounding and loud, and more of a buzz sound than thunder sound...

I don't remember the time but it might have been the 10:45 time, I thought it was later because the power was off for about 2 hours and it went on about 3 I think, but I was dazed and confused for sure. I don't remember what time, but dad will remember because I was on the phone to see if they were ok. I didn't hear anything electrical, just the loud noise which, yes was a WEIRD combination of transformer sound and jarring close up explosion noise. Myself and neighbors gathering outside thought it was a transformer until I woke up in the morning and saw the tree. Imagine my surprise to see that myself and the neighbors had narrowly escaped a fire or worse, thanks to a ginormous redwood tree. Now PG&E is wanting to top off my front yard cypress tree. Too bad, it might have some day save MY life and home. But you gotta do this stuff, if its too close it could also be a fire hazard if electricity jumps the lines in a storm and I have seen that happen. Very scary!
