Resident's Alert to Locals: Pine Meadows Golf Course to Housing Plan

On behalf of Tim Platt -

Friends and neighbors,

Pine Meadows Golf Course at Morello and Center avenues, 100 houses are proposed on this 26-acre parcel that is now zoned “Open Space and Recreation, Permanent”.

Our City Council must NOT approve changing this land from open space to housing.

This City Council already voted 4-0 (Mark Ross not voting because of conflict of interest) to rezone the Freitas Open Space from Open Space to development.
They were only stopped by Martinez resident Mark Thomson’s group and the lawyer they hired to face down the Council. Otherwise this open space would be gone.

Our City Council must not rezone Pine Meadows.

Think of what this land could be.
The staff report states about Pine Meadows:  “mature woodland vegetation”; “nesting and foraging habitat for a variety of birds” including special-status birds; “habitat for… The California red-legged frog”—an endangered species; “presence of wetlands” near man-made pond.  Forty-seven protected trees will be killed, including redwoods and oaks.

This Council approved a major project in the Alhambra Hills. That is why the cost to purchase the Alhambra Hills as open space is so incredibly high.  They must not do the same with Pine Meadows.

Additionally, the City Council is considering a General Plan change that will allow them to easily convert more open space to housing throughout Martinez.

Tell the City Council to STOP THIS ATTACK on our OPEN SPACE.

 E-mail the City Council NOW.
