Obituary: Ronald Norman Levinson

The Chicago native spent his life helping others in need.

Ronald Norman Levinson, Resident of Martinez Aug. 30, 1929 - Apr. 18, 2012

Ron was born in Chicago, Illinois and graduated from Fairfax High School in Los Angeles. Ron earned his B.A. in Anthropology at San Fernando Valley State College in 1963 and later earned his Master's and PhD in Counseling Psychology from the University of Oregon in 1972.

Ron spent his entire life helping others in need. He worked in the Poverty Program in L.A. and joined the Peace Corps, living with his family in Barbados. Ron became the Director of Lane Human Resources in Eugene, developing community resources for the disadvantaged. Ron brought his family to the Bay Area where he worked at the County Hospital in Martinez as Director of Continuing Care Services and then as Dean of the Graduate School of Professional Psychology at John F. Kennedy University for 26 years. Most recently, Ron worked as Clinical Director of Therapeutic Behavioral Services of La Cheim in Richmond.

Ron was devoted to supporting his family and grandchildren in whatever their unique and varied interests were. Ron is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Violet; daughter Leslie Tomichek (Ron) and their children Erin and Katie and his son Ben Levinson (Jeanette) and their children Nate and Rachel. Ron's loving and generous spirit has touched many lives in his continuous quest for meaning. He will be missed by all. Services will be private. Condolences may be left at: oakmontmortuary.com.
