Ellen Mae Ristad Worked as an Occupational Therapist During WWII. She was 89.

The deceased taught kindergarten and second grade in the Mount Diablo Unified School District.

Friends and family of Ellen Mae (Kuhn) Ristad are mourning the Martinez resident and former grade school teacher, who died on April 5 at the age of 89.

Born in Stockton and a graduate of U.C. Berkeley, Ellen worked as an occupational therapist during World War II, according to Legacy.com. She taught kindergarten and second grade in the Mount Diablo Unified School District until her retirement in 1981. Her husband of 66 years, Kenneth Ristad, died in 2012. Ellen was a member of P.E.O for over 68 years.

She is survived by three children, four grandchildren and two great-grandsons.

Services will be private. Memorial donations may be made to the P.E.O. Scholarship Fund in care of the family, Tony La Russa's Animal Rescue Foundation, or the charity of your choice .
