Dr. Mark's Wellness Blog - Keep It Simple

A couple of simple things to do that can improve your health.

My name is Dr. Mark Hanses and this is my Health & Wellness blog.
I am a chiropractor practicing in Martinez, but that’s not necessarily what
this blog is going to be about. I absolutely love being a chiropractor and I
have seen some amazing things since I’ve been practicing. I believe that my job
as a doctor is to help take care of the community that I live in and help point
people in the direction of health that they would not otherwise take. It is my
intent to educate, tell stories, share insights and even share some healthy
recipes that you might not have thought of. Martinez and the surrounding area
has a lot to offer in terms of health and I will also be exploring that.

Achieving “health” should be a life-long commitment, which sounds
like a lot of effort, but it’s really not. Simply changing one thing or a
couple things at a time can add up to significant changes. Try cooking at home
one extra night a week instead of eating out or pick one night a week to take a
walk around the neighborhood. Starting out with easy changes won’t be so
overwhelming and you will be more likely to stick to the plan.

Here are a couple simple suggestions just to get started:

  • Give up soda and juices with lots of sugar or high
fructose corn syrup. Replace with water, nonfat milk, almond milk, various teas
or coffee. If you’re a soda drinker, try seltzer water or club soda with a
splash of lemon or lime. I like it because you still get the satisfying
fizziness, without all the high fructose corn syrup.
  • Eat foods that are closest to their natural state as
possible. Stay away from packaged foods as much as possible and try cooking at
home more often than you eat out.
  • Find a form of exercise you enjoy. It’s easier to do the
things we enjoy. For example, don’t force yourself to run if you hate running.
    It will not last!

Keep in mind that striving for perfection usually leads to disaster. Set
small goals and stair step your way to success!
