New Main Street Benches, Planters In The Plaza: What Do You Think?

The $6,000 project came out of the Downtown Beautification Fund.

Main Street got a new mural last year in the plaza, after a small beaver-fueled tussle. And today, the plaza gets to sport two new benches, three new planter boxes, and in-ground lights to show off the murals.

"There used to be concrete blocks on that plaza," said Public Works Director Dave Scola. "People used to sit on them, but they weren't very inviting or attractive. So we took them out, but then people complained that there was no place to sit down."

When the mural project came into being, it was decided to install benches and planter boxes to provide some foliage and a place to sit and enjoy the Main Street ambiance.

"We can't use in-ground plants," Scola said, "because then we can't put the Santa House down."

A decorative water fountain is the next thing on the list to be installed, he added.

The entire project, not including the mural, cost $6,000 and came from the Downtown Beautification Fund, Scola said.
