A 12-year-old Martinez boy who was injured in the Boston Marathon
bombings last month will throw out the ceremonial first pitch at today's game
between the Oakland A's and the San Francisco Giants.
Aaron Hern will take the field to throw the pitch before the two Bay Area teams play an interleague game scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at the O.co Coliseum in Oakland, A's officials said on Twitter this afternoon.
Aaron was near the finish line to watch his mother complete the April 15 race in Boston when the bombs went off, spraying him with shrapnel that severely injured his left leg.
He underwent two surgeries at a Boston hospital, where he was visited by members of the Oakland A's as well as by First Lady Michelle Obama before returning home.
The A's are not the only Bay Area sports team to pay tribute to Aaron -- he also was invited to attend a Golden State Warriors playoff game earlier this month, and met the team.
San Francisco and Oakland started their series on Monday with the A's winning 4-1. The teams will then play two more games at AT&T Park in San Francisco on Wednesday and Thursday.
