All Students In Martinez Unified School District Have Whooping Cough Vaccinations

District met the deadline this year for 100 percent compliance with state law.

The Martinez Unified School District has met the state deadline for making sure that every student in grades 7 through 12 has been vaccinated for whooping cough, district officials said last week.

"We have worked collaboratively with school sites and the community since last spring with the goal to have no students missing classes based on the required immunizations of Assembly Bill 354," said CJ Cammack, MUSD director of Student Services.

Of the 2077 students in the 7th through 12th grades in the district, he said, all have now have been immunized for whooping cough.

"Our District Nurse, Sandra Waterman, has done an amazing job publicizing and creating awareness of the requirement over the past six months," Cammack said. "Our community of Martinez showed a great response to this new law by helping to ensure all students were vaccinated. The District is very grateful to all the parents, community members, students and staff that helped us reach our goal of 100% compliance."

He said that, going forward, all students entering the 7th grade will have to show proof of getting the whooping cough vaccination, also known as a Tdap shot.
