Lose Weight, Win $1,500

Patch is encouraging readers to join a local weight loss challenge and then tell us your story

You can lose weight and plump up your bank account at the same time in a team weight-loss contest sponsored by some local companies.

The competition, called the Biggest Winner Tri-Valley, is accepting sign-ups through Jan. 21 for the six-week challenge.

Contestants must be at least 18 years old and compete in two-person teams. The team that loses the greatest percentage of body weight over the six-week period will receive $1,500 in cash and prizes.

Individuals must have their weight recorded by a staff member at Crunch Fitness in Blackhawk between Jan. 19 and Jan. 22.

Contestants will also be weighed between Feb. 9 and Feb. 12 as well as between March 1 and March 4, when the contest ends.

The winners are announced on March 6.

The entry fee is $99 per person. Entrants receive a 6-week membership to Crunch Fitness as well as a four-week nutrition program from 28 Days to Health.

The event's other sponsors are Johnson Chiropratic Group, Alamo Capital Financial Services and Forward Motion.

Michael Parry, the contest co-ordinator, said the weight loss challenge is a great way for people to start the new year off right by eating well and living a healthy lifestyle.

"It provides accountability and motivation," said Parry, who is a marathoner and Ironman triathlete. "A good exercise and nutrition program can help you lead a clean, healthly life. You feel better and you look better."

Patch will be following the contest and hopes to profile local contestants willing to share their stories and inspire others through blogs, videos and stories.

Let us know if you participate and want to tell others about it.

I would love to do this with my husband, why the Fee of $99? Just too expensive for two people. Great idea!

We decided to do 2 person teams because it is always better working out with a partner as it provides a little extra motivation when you need it. However, if you do not have someone that you would like to do this with, you can sign up as an individual and we will pair you up with another single.

For $99 you are going to receive a 6-week membership to Crunch which will give you access to all their group fitness classes and other amenities they have to offer. You will receive 4 nutrition classes, shopping guide, healthy recipes and nutritional support from 28 Days to Health. You will also get a Biggest Winner T-shirt, sponsor discounts, health and wellness education and more!

I see that the 28 days to health program has a "transformation kit". Is that included in the nutrition program or would I have to purchase this in addition to the entry fee?
Michael Parry January 10, 2012 at 05:24 PM
The Transformation Kits are not included as part of the $99. Through partnering with 28 Days to Health, we are going to teach you how to eat clean and live healthy. You can do this with just food or you can incorporate some of their products into your daily routine to make life simpler. You will also receive a discount on their products for being a part of the Biggest Winner.
