Your hero could be a family member, neighbor, friend, or coworker, who has risked his or her life to save others, or has selflessly given time and resources to help others in need.

This year's recipients included teachers at Sandy Hook Elementary who protected their students during the tragic shooting, a father and son who used their boat to rescue 120 people during Hurricane Isaac after official rescues were called off, and a priest who created a homeless support center that offers assistance, counseling and job training and is now modeled throughout the U.S.
