Communities Working Together Will Save Many Lives!

Every day it seems as if we are surrounded by, and bombarded with, bad news.  Television, newspapers, the internet, etc. all report on human weaknesses and tragedies, and sensationalize what should be private matters.  Apparently, bad news sells better than good news.

It is probable that the reason we don't seem to hear about much of the good being done in the world as much as the bad is because the people who do good- who give of their time, their talents and their means to help others often don't publicize their good works.

Sometimes we do hear or read about communities pulling together to help those in need:  miners trapped in a Chilean mine; missing children found; the rescue of survivors and cleanup after a natural disaster, etc.  Too often the people that perform acts of bravery and heroism go unsung.  They instinctively respond in times of crisis, they help in the community and perform selfless service.  They do these things NOT to become famous, but simply because it's the right thing to do.  That is a quality to be admired.

Right now, in our own communities in the East Bay, we have a wonderful opportunity to give selfless service!  The American Red Cross is having what could potentially be the largest faith-organized blood drive in their history!  Working with faith organizations, the ARC is holding blood drives six days a week during the month of July at various places of worship.  This is being spearheaded by the Oakland Diocese of the Catholic Church, east bay congregations of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon) with several other groups from the Christian and Muslim community.

All citizens who are eligible are encouraged to please give blood.  To participate just go to www.redcrossblood.org and enter the sponsor code: interfaithcommunity.  There you can check to see if you are eligible and pick the site most convenient to your location.  You can also call 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767).

Think about this… Not everyone can give blood.  If you CAN give blood, you CAN save a life.

If you DO give blood, YOU WILL save a life.  That is good news!

Thanks for your support!
